"What can a Christian do to prevent being a floor mat for other human beings? Doormats are small carpets that are placed directly in a door opening where humans can clean their filthy footwear before they enter the home. It is also used to describe a person who allows others to enter him/herself (figuratively), i.e. a floor mat allows himself/herself to be misused, belittled or exploited without establishing a defence.

Jesus having instructed us "to turn the other cheek" (Matthew 5:39) and "to do good to those who loathe you" (Luke 6:27), did he tell us to be floor mats? Îsâ'alaihis-salâm' did not teach his followers to be mats. To be a floor mat is debility, but to choose pardon is power. Comprehending that God has declared us upright because of the Jesus' death and Resurrection (2 Corinthians 5:21) should enable us to walk in the liberty that comes with it. To no one we are floor mats; we are children and daughters of the Most High God (Philippians 2:14-15; Ephesians 5:1). Jesus, the real minister of all, was not a mats.
